Aidan Harte was a designer and commercial director at the Oscar-nominated Cartoon Saloon before getting to direct his show Skunk Fu for CBBC and Cartoon Network. It was nominated for a BAFTA and won an IFTA in 2008. He subsequently studied classical sculpture at the Florence Academy of Art, and has sold bronzes in Dublin, London and New York. His first novel, Irenicon, was published by Jo Fletcher Books, Hachette in 2012 and shortlisted for the David Gemmell award for Best Debut. His latest, Spira Mirabilis, was published in the USA in 2016.
Harte says animation has a unique register. “Cartoons can say complex things simply, hard things humanly. Distinctive movement can transform anything – a squiggle, a shape, a lamp – into a personality, a someone audiences can follow.”
